Sookmyung Women’s University won the Grand Prize in the Education Management category at the 2025 TV Chosun Management Awards, held on December 12 at The Plaza Hotel in Seoul. In addition, President Moon Si-yeun received the Minister of Science and ICT Award, recognizing her outstanding leadership in educational management and achievements in research innovation.
Founded by the Korean Imperial Family as the first national institution for women’s higher education, Sookmyung Women’s University was highly praised for proactively responding to social change through educational innovation and sustainable university management strategies, as it approaches its 120th anniversary next year.
Under the slogan “Outthinkers Sookmyung,” the university has focused on nurturing creative talent capable of solving problems in new ways beyond conventional frameworks, with the goal of leading the future of women.
In particular, Sookmyung has actively pursued educational innovation to redefine the role of universities in the age of artificial intelligence. It established an AI Center and expanded AI education across non-engineering disciplines, including the humanities, social sciences, and the arts, accelerating efforts to cultivate interdisciplinary talent that is difficult for AI to replace.
Positioning itself as a global university at the center of the Korean Wave (Hallyu), where technology and the humanities converge, Sookmyung has strengthened networks with leading overseas universities. The establishment of institutions such as the College of Hallyu International Studies and the Graduate School of K-Culture has significantly increased the number of international students.
Meanwhile, President Moon, who received the Minister of Science and ICT Award, has successfully secured a series of major national research projects since taking office, including the Global Basic Research Laboratory Program, the Nano-Materials Technology Development Program, and the Advanced Bio Global Joint Research Center Initiative. She also led the university to be selected for the Ministry of Education’s Glocal Lab project, which provides a total of KRW 13.5 billion over nine years for the development of anti-aging therapeutics, further strengthening Sookmyung’s research competitiveness.
President Moon stated, “As Sookmyung Women’s University marks its 120th anniversary, I will do my utmost to ensure that it grows into a global women’s university that stands shoulder to shoulder with leading institutions around the world.”
