Celebrating its 120th anniversary, Sookmyung Women’s University invited ambassadors from five countries to Korea on January 29 (Thu) for a “Global Partnership Roundtable,” where participants discussed educational cooperation and talent development centered on AI and Hallyu (the Korean Wave).

The roundtable was attended by Ramin Hasanov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Korea; Taufic Islam Shatil, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Korea; Nurgali Arystanov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Korea; Bakuramutsa N. Manzi, Ambassador of Rwanda to Korea; and Alisher Abdusalomov, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Korea. The ambassadors expressed shared recognition that their students in Korea are thriving within Sookmyung’s well-structured educational environment and agreed to further expand future programs in education, research, and exchange.

In her welcoming remarks, President Moon Si-yeun stated, “Over the past 120 years, Sookmyung Women’s University has contributed to social change and national development through women’s education. Students from the five countries represented here today are excelling in academics, research, and campus life, enhancing Sookmyung’s global competitiveness.”

During the meeting, President Moon emphasized the university’s advancing AI-based educational innovation strategy, which is being further developed in celebration of its 120th anniversary. She noted, “AI is not merely a technology confined to a specific major, but a core tool that transforms the cognitive framework of all disciplines. Sookmyung integrates AI across its curriculum to cultivate talents who not only understand technology but can also reflect on humanity and society.”

She also introduced the newly launched Hallyu International College as a central pillar of the university’s global strategy, explaining that it is “a platform that expands K-culture—now drawing worldwide attention—beyond language and cultural education to include the content industry, technology, policy, and regional studies.”

Meanwhile, the university informed the ambassadors that it plans to confer an honorary doctorate this year upon the First Lady of Rwanda, describing it as a symbolic example of how institutional-level educational cooperation is expanding beyond Asia to the African continent.
