The international journal Asian Women, published by the Research Institute of Asian Women at Sookmyung Women's University, has advanced to Q3 in the 2025 Journal Citation Reports (JCR) released by Clarivate.
The JCR evaluates a journal's global recognition and influence, ranking publications within their field from Q1 to Q4. Asian Women rose one tier from Q4 in 2024, reflecting stronger editorial management and growing research impact.
Since its founding in 1995, Asian Women has led interdisciplinary and cross-cultural discussions on gender issues and women's lives across Asia. The journal is published quarterly, in March, June, September and December.
Asian Women was listed by the National Research Foundation of Korea in 2005 and later indexed in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) in 2008 and Scopus in 2013, establishing itself as a leading international journal in women's studies. It covers a broad range of topics including gender, migration, education and labor, with steadily growing participation from researchers in Korea and abroad.

The upgrade is attributed to the institute's systematic journal management and efforts to expand its research base. In July 2025, the institute adopted the Editorial Manager (EM) system, overhauling its submission and review process to improve operational efficiency and international accessibility.
The institute has also worked to cultivate the next generation of scholars, hosting the 2025 Asian Women Student Paper Competition and the upcoming 2026 OMNES: Journal of Multicultural Society student paper competition.
"The advancement of Asian Women to Q3 is a meaningful achievement made possible by the dedication of the institute, the editorial board, and researchers at home and abroad," said Kim Sung-eun, director of the Research Institute of Asian Women. "We will continue to strengthen the journal's global competitiveness and develop it into a leading platform for gender research worldwide."
The awards ceremony for the Asian Women Student Paper Competition, held during the Research Institute of Asian Women's regular academic conference on Nov. 7, 2025.
