SMWU President Meets Lam Research CEO to Discuss Semiconductor Collaboration

President Moon Si-yeun of Sookmyung Women's University met with Tim Archer, CEO of global semiconductor equipment company Lam Research, at the company's headquarters in Fremont, California, on July 30. The visit took place as part of President Moon's tour of alumni chapters in Canada and the western United States, marking the university's 120th founding anniversary.
The meeting builds on a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in April between Sookmyung Women's University and Lam Research Korea, further advancing industry-academia collaboration and expanding the university's global network.
During the visit, President Moon and CEO Archer discussed global trends in the semiconductor industry and the growing role of talented women professionals in the field. President Moon also invited Archer to visit Sookmyung's campus. Archer previously visited Korea in February as a keynote speaker at SEMICON Korea 2026, a leading global semiconductor technology conference.
Lam Research develops and supplies core equipment for semiconductor manufacturing, with particular expertise in wafer etching and deposition technologies. In 2022, the company established its Korea Technology Center in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province — its first semiconductor R&D center in Asia.

The delegation, which included Lee Hyung-jin, Dean of the External Affairs & Communication, was guided through Lam Research's research and development facilities by two Sookmyung alumnae working at the company: Oh Young-sun (English Language and Literature) and Lee Eun-ju (Statistics). The alumnae toured the delegation through the company's semiconductor process development sites and encouraged current students to pursue global opportunities in the semiconductor industry with confidence in the era of artificial intelligence.
"Through this visit, we were able to see firsthand the operations of a leading global semiconductor company and connect with outstanding alumnae working abroad," SMWU said. "It was a meaningful opportunity to reaffirm our vision of cultivating global women leaders and to explore further possibilities for industry-academia collaboration."
